How To Style Culottes like a Nineties Chick.

Culottes are my current favourite bottoms and here’s the reason why.

Hi guys,

I’m glad you made it to this tiny space of mine once again.
It’s funny how emotions can be so unpredictable. One moment I’m motivated to write my heart out and the next I don’t even want to type a word.
Can anyone relate?
Anyway, I hope we’ve all been great. I’m doing all my best to be.

So, culottes? The first time I came in contact with Culottes was on Princess (Sarah) Audu’s blog. She’s pretty much the Queen of Culottes.

Culottes go wayyy back to the early 1900s, consult my best friend Google for more history lessons, yet they took over the fashion scene in 2015 and ever since they have come to stay.

Ever since I’ve read and seen a thousand and one ways to style this comfortable yet chic item of clothing. In fact, I shared some culotte style inspiration during my early blogging days. Check out my amateur post here. I’ll definitely have to update it now.

I finally got a pair of culottes last year while shopping for the GTB Fashion Weekend and while thrifting I also found this colour block shirt that reminds me so much of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – a TV comedy show from the 90s.

With this shirt, it was indeed a love at first sight scenario. The minute I caught sight of it, I knew it belonged in my closet. It was equally affordable and that’s a deal breaker for me.

Don’t sleep on thrifting guys!!!

Kindly excuse the wrinkles.

Anyway, I was going to wear my first ever pair of culottes and nineties colour block shirt to the GTB Fashion Weekend but as a first timer, I chose the laid-back route. If you follow me on the ‘gram, you know what I eventually wore to the event. This outfit didn’t make it to the Fashion Weekend but it definitely had to make it to the blog. For those who aren’t aware I’m a huge fan of 90s fashion and style so I definitely had to pay homage to one of the best fashion eras of all time. Disagree? Argue with yourself, please.

Statement belts have a way of adding more life to an outfit and so I cinched my waist with one. For more pop of colour, my Zara Basic lace-up heels came in handy. I threw in the clutch last minute because where else would you keep your phone, makeup and other stuff eh?

The fun thing about culottes is that they are comfortable and can be styled in a variety of ways. I used to consider them to be strictly casual wear but in recent times the notion has changed. Culottes can be worn as casual wear, work wear and even to important events like Fashion Week. The styling options are indeed endless.

I understand our style choices differ. Hence, if you’re not feeling this look you can always switch things up. Ditch the lace-up heels for pumps, sandals or even sneakers. You can always trade the clutch for a cute sling bag or a chic handbag. Trust me! The options are endless.Black culottes and Color block shirt

If you need more Culotte style inspiration, follow me on Pinterest I have a board dedicated to these easy breezy pants.

I’m equally obsessed with this colour block shirt and I’m definitely restyling it again on the blog with even better photos. Look out for that style post.

P.s – I had a hard time editing these photos but I hope you’re inspired still.

What’s your take on this look?

Own a pair of culottes? How do you style them?

I’ll love to read your thoughts.
