It’s that time of the year again. Yasss! It’s giveaway season.
At the end of the year, many brands and influencers carry out online giveaway contests mainly to show appreciation to their followers and customers and also to gain even more followers.
Quite a number of people avoid giveaways for a number of reasons why others live for them. I for one used to avoid giveaways until I read this blog article and decided to give it a shot.
Did it pay off? Oh, it sure did! So far I’ve won about 10 different giveaways all from Instagram.
Let’s take a step back. First off what is a giveaway?
According to the online Oxford dictionary, a giveaway is “A thing that is given free, often for promotional purposes”. It’s literally giving something away at no cost. You only have to follow the rules and do simple tasks. Easy right?
Yet, many people still refuse to participate in giveaways.
Why? Well here are some reasons people have given;
- The rules are too many
- I don’t want it to seem like I’m begging
- I’ve never won anything online so why try?
- The giveaway poster will disrupt my Instagram feed.
That last one though…
Anyway, if you are all for giveaways yet you have never won anything, here are a few practical and helpful tips.
- ALWAYS FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS – This is as simple as A.B.C. I mean even during exams they always tell you this. If the brand or individual carrying out the giveaway says “tag a friend and that’s all”, don’t go leaving an epistle as to why you should win and all DONT!
- BE LOYAL – What do I mean? Personally, If I haven’t been following a brand or individual for a while I hesitate in contesting in their giveaways. Why? I totally feel like I haven’t been with you since day one so why start following just for a giveaway. So ensure you’ve been a loyal follower and always engage – drop comments, like posts, retweet… This will better your chances of winning.
- USE THE RIGHT HASHTAGS – This still takes us back to point 1. Many people use hashtags to monitor their giveaway participants. So, use the right hashtag so your entry can be easily seen.
- BE CREATIVE – Sometimes you might be asked to state reasons why you want to win and blah blah. Ensure you are creative with your responses and don’t simply give a generic response.
- BE OPTIMISTIC– Do not enter into a giveaway half-heartedly. Be optimistic and you just might win. If you don’t…?
- BE A GOOD SPORT – Truth be told we can’t win every giveaway we put in for yet our attitude when others win can better our chances next time. Also, do not discredit the methods used in picking a winner. It’s really not your business. You don’t win, you suck it up and move along!
That’s it guys, quick and easy tips for winning online giveaways.
Got any tips? Feel free to share.
Also, check out some of my giveaway wins here, here, here and here.
BONUS TIP – Unfortunately some people do not fulfil their own part of the giveaway (i.e you wouldn’t get your gift after all the following and liking)
What to do? You can either call them out and start a social media rant or be the bigger person and just let it go. Whichever way the choice is yours.
Now go partake in those online giveaways and win your fine self something nice.
Until next time,
WanShyGirl.
Hahahah I just participated in my first giveaway contest 3hrs ago. I picked the rules I felt like taking through and I left the others I felt weren’t practical 🤦🏽♀️
You just had to me 3hrs late on your post 😂😫😂

I have never participated in an online giveaway because i feel i’d never win and do not want to even stress myself trying. Hopefully i’d give it a shot in the coming year. Thanks for sharing this.

I used to be like you in the past. Sometimes I do not enter for some giveaways because they seem stressful yet if the rules aren’t too many I give it a shot. Thanks for checking this out as well. All the best in your giveaway endeavours 😉

Definitely not big on giveaways. Maybe that’ll change when I win something, if that ever happens. Lol. I’ve entered some giveaways lately though. Fingers crossed.

Another reason why I don’t want to participate in give aways: you win but won’t get the items you won.
Now let me continue reading 😆

Hahahaha… this happens in rare cases. In my case, I have won 10 giveaways so far yet I only received 8 of my winnings. That shouldn’t stop you from trying though. Thanks for reading this. Means a lot!

I really don’t participate in giveaways but I will try to be more open about them in 2018. I think being a loyal follower or customer is very important. We think brands and influencers don’t notice but they do and giveaways is actually to reward their loyal customers/followers.
Thanks for the tips. I will ensure to follow them when I start.

Hello Oyinda, I’m smiling as I read this comment. I hope you win something from a giveaway real soon. It’s a win win situation but that doesn’t mean the giveaway gods will not favor you one day. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment. I’ll totally check out your blog.
